The first known ancestor passed down by family lore is Dan O'Driscoll, married to Mary Ross. He was a blacksmith. Their son Humphrey was the first better documented ancestor of the tester. Humphrey is listed in Drinagh on his Caheragh Parish marriage record to Johanna Hayes of Aghaville, and later in Griffith's Valuation in Aghaville. But the family states their Driscoll line originated in Ballaghadown, Caheragh. There is some evidence to support this:

1. There is a Daniel Driscoll in Ballaghadown in the 1828 Caheragh Tithe Applotment; Humphrey Driscoll is in Aghaville in that same document. Based on the available records, we can't tell if the Daniel in the TA book is Humphrey's father or perhaps brother.


2. Humphrey Driscoll appears on the baptism records of children born in Ballaghadown. Possibly related families include Cornelius Driscoll and Betty (Bess) Whooley (see A below), and Alex O'Driscoll and Mary Kelly, and possibly Daniel Driscoll and Mary (or Margaret?) Collins.
   
   One family that appears to be firmly linked to the ancestral family in Ballaghadown is that of Daniel Driscoll and Catherine McCarthy of Reenroe. (see B below) Among the baptism sponsors of their children were Alexander Driscoll, Daniel Driscoll and Mary Ross; there was also a son named Humphrey. A known descendant of the ancestral Ballaghadown couple autosomally matches a known descendant of the Reenroe couple.

Church records repeatedly mistranscribe "Humphrey."
