Earliest known ancestor: Denis ODriscoll of Comolane, Cape Clear; d. 1897.
"I am the great-grandson of Denis ODriscoll of Comolane, Cape Clear. Denis died around 1904, so he probably was born somewhere between 1850-1870. My grandfather was born on Cape Clear in 1892 and left the island in 1906 at the age of fourteen. As I understand it, both my great grandparents were Driscolls (Denis and Ellen). I have a number of cousins, children of Ellen's brothers and sisters, still living on the island. I have restored the house that the family lived since 1902 and I visit there several times a year."
A related project member refers to these Driscolls as Páirce.
Great news! Skibbereen locals have dug up records and helped with additional info about this family history.

There seem to be many missing records so the family tree is not completely filled out.
Working backwards...
We think this is the household of Denis's (1862-1897) widow Ellen in Comillane in house 5 in the 1911 census.
This is the household in the 1901 census. The head of the household was Ellen's widowed mother-in-law, Mary. Notice that John, aged 29, is Mary's son, not Ellen's. So the deceased Denis had a brother named John.
There was a bad measles outbreak in 1897, which took Ellen's husband Denis at the age of 34 on June 5:
Denis and Ellen were only married for seven years:
If Ellen's mother-in-law was widowed by 1901, and Denis's father's name was Jeremiah, we should be able to find Jeremiah's death record before the 1901 census. So far, we have not been able to find a death record that places a Jeremiah on Clear Island.
Revisiting the 1911 census, this may have been John with the elderly mother in house 6 of Comillane. It says he was a widower:
John apparently married Julia Regan, 30 Jan 1906. Julia died 24 Sep 1909 of tuberculosis.
Mary Donoghue Driscoll passed away, 30 Oct 1912, aged 81.
John subsequently married Hannah Donovan of Highfield, 05 Jun 1913.
