Table: 1 2 3 4 5 6

Cluster 4550

This grouping shows an affinity to the Sullivans. Members in this category (not all are actively participating) have documented ancestry from Beara. Many centuries ago the O'Sullivans drove the O'Driscolls out of Beara and assumed leadership. (Much later in the early 17th century the O'Sullivans suffered their territory losses in Beara during the Siege of Dunboy.)

Cluster 4550 has only one actively participating member. That member's ancestry is documented back to the early 19th century in Beara, which appears corroborated by a non-participating member.

Since updates were last published in early 2019, YFull has since modified its TMRCA date for R-L270, which makes more sense.

The Sullivan relationship is probably from many centuries ago. The clan headed down to Beara from north Munster, starting in the late 12th century.

Cluster 4555

R-A6516 could be a signature SNP for Driscolls called Chronicane. Participating members have ancestry from Sherkin Island and from Ardfield.

Mutations of interest:

DYS437=14 (#19, Table 1).

DYS557=15 (#51, Table 1).

DYS549=15 (#78, Table 1).

Other shared mutations are on markers known to be more volatile.

Curiously, the Sherkin Island and one of the Ardfield lines show the curious extra copies on multi-copy markers DYS459 (#14-15); DYS464 (#22-25); and CDY (#34-35). They probably did not spring up simultaneously in separate lines so they point to a common ancestor, and probably a recent one, just beyond the reach of available genealogy records.

See Genetic Distance on the Table 1 page for a discussion of the extra values on three multi-copy markers.

Cluster 4560

R-A88 > Z16259 is being investigated as a series of mutations indicative of the rulers of the Ui Fidgenti, an ancient Limerick kingdom.

Driscolls in this cluster have a closer affinity to some men named Donovan and Collins than to other Driscolls.

Cluster 4560 Driscolls do not have Cluster 4565 Driscolls as matches, even though that cluster is also a subclade of R-Z16259.

R-A88 > Z16259 is being investigated as a series of mutations indicative of the rulers of the Ui Fidgenti, an ancient Limerick kingdom.

Driscolls in this cluster have a closer affinity to some men named Donovan and Collins than to other Driscolls.

Members in Cluster 4565 have ancestry from around Baltimore and Clear Island. They share a mutation DYS439 (#12, Table 1) = 12.

Cluster 4565 Driscolls do not have Cluster 4560 Driscolls as matches, even though that cluster is also a subclade of R-Z16259.
