May 28, 1892 Southern Star - ANOTHER EXILE DEAD - The inhabitants of Skibbereen and its neighbourhood, will learn with much regret of the death in Roxbury, Mass., America, of Mr. John O'Driscoll, of Skibbereen, which took place on 20th March last. The deceased, who was brother to Mr. Patrick O'Driscoll, North Street, was for a number of years a National Teacher in the town, until the time of the Fenian movement, when he was arrested, and sentenced to a term of imprisonment, part of which he served in Mountjoy prison.
After his release from jail he emigrated to America, where, after a short time, he succeeded in obtaining a similar position to the one he was forced to abandon in his native town, and which he held with much credit to himself, up to the earlier part of March, when he was seized with an attack of typhoid pneumonia, which caused his death. O'Donovan Rssa writes in his paper, the "United Irishman" as follows:
It surprised me. It will surprise many of the old guard, who met John Driscoll, the schoolmaster of Skibbereen, in Dublin Prison, to learn that he is dead. He was a man full of Irish life and spirit of the force of Ireland, and of hatred for Ireland's enemies. He was the grandson of John Collins of Myross, who wrote the Irish poem on Timoleague Abbey, and several other poems about Ireland. John Driscoll became wealthy in a foreign land. He died leaving a large family to mourn his loss.Wisconsin
