Sometimes called the Pender census, because Séamus Pender edited the original documents, the 1659 census data is available from the LDS Family History Library or from the Irish Genealogical Foundation.

This census was not like the 19th and 20th century censuses, which enumerated by household. Land holders (tituladoes) were the only individuals enumerated. The data is grouped by barony. At the end of the listing for the barony is a section labeled "Principall Irish Names [and] their Numbers." In this section is a tally by surname of the number of households with that surname. The most frequent surnames are tallied.
