Spring 1953Patrick Joseph Driscoll was born 7 Feb 1885 in Cahermore, Bantry Bay, Co. Cork Ireland and died 22 April 1969 in the Bronx, NY.
He arrived at Ellis Island on 22 April 1898 on board the SS "Germanic" at age 11 and was destined for 297 Belmont St. Fall River, MA. According to the manifest of the SS Germanic he was accompanied by his mother, sister Kate, age 17, and brother John, age 15.
On 2 Jan 1918 he was appointed as a permanent gateman for the Dept. of Transportation, IRT Division at a salary of $2.15 per day. On 13 Jun 1918 he became a Guard at $2.40 per day. He worked as a guard until 3 July 1937. His salary increased over the years to $4.59 per day with no increase between 1 Apr 1927 to 4 July 1937 when he was promoted to trainman with a salary of 61.9 cents per hour. On 1 Sep 1941 he became a Conductor at a salary of 65 cents an hour. He held this position until 28 Jul 1954 when as, a result of a service incurred physical disability he was assigned as a platform duties only Conductor at the salary af $1.685 per hour. He retired 2 Jan 1955.
