St Multose Church Multose (which derives from the passage of a name, probably Ellt, through Gaelic, Latin and English) founded a monastery in the 6th century at Kinsale and in so doing probably started the town. His father was of Spanish descent and his mother was Welsh (St David's sister). The parish church was built by the Normans in c 1190 on the site of the original monastery. A carving over the west door is believed to be of the same period and shows the saint holding a bishop's crosier and a large stone, which symbolises him as a church builder. St Multose is the patron saint of Kinsale, feast day 11th December.
