Mary Jane Driscoll/Tierney was born in 1866 near Rockhampton, Queensland Australia the 5th child of John Bernard Driscoll and Miriam Winwood Deacon. Mary Jane married Peter Tierney at Cobar NSW in 1886, where 2 children were born. In 1890 the family and her Mother Miriam Driscoll/Murphy and Step-Father Edward Murphy, moved to Banora Point NSW where they selected land to farm and run a Dairy. Peter died at a young age and Mary Jane raised her 6 young children and managed the property for many years. She became quite a prominent figure in the district. Her hospitality was well known. John Bernard Driscoll was born at Cork about 1822. He enlisted in the Army at Cork in 1840 and served in the 22nd Regiment of Foot and the Falkland Island Garrison for 14 years. He and his wife Miriam and 3 small children came to Australia in 1865. John and Miriam had 7 children with 4 surviving. John died at Cobar NSW in 1875.
